Green footprint calculation made easy with ecological footprint calculator.

Before everything else let me define what is ecological footprint.

Ecological Footprint Definition

Ecological footprint or green footprint is defined as  “the impact of human activities measured in terms of the area of biologically productive land and water required to produce the goods consumed and to assimilate the wastes generated. More simply, it is the amount of the environment necessary to produce the goods and services necessary to support a particular lifestyle.” (WWF Global Org)

How to compute the Green Footprint?

The computation of individual’s green footprint takes many indicators. Broadly speaking,  it involves the consumption pattern of any person, the energy produced and others. While ecological footprint can be now computed with online apps, it can also be use to compute for CO2 and carbon footprint for kids, carbon footprint for students and households.

Why calculate Green Ecological Footprint?

The simplest answer to this is to reduce carbon footprint. Over time there is an increasing carbon emissions from 1900 up to present where China being top emitter of carbon dioxide followed by the U.S.

If you are care about the future, reducing carbon footprint is one way to contribute to sustainable development.

Ecological Footprint Calculators

While searching for some sustainable living calculator I came across Global Stewards where it features how to start sustainable lifestyle. This list of CO2 footprint calculator is not listed based on its ranking.

Footprint Calculator

This calculator has lots of features. It will display your green footprint in an infographic style where you can also share through social media. Or if you like, you can make a pledge.

Look at my green footprint below. It’s sad that I myself is not yet that ecologically friendly based on my lifestyle. But in one way or another, by practicing being a vegetarian, I can also reduce my carbon footprint.

Greenhouse Gases Equivalencies Calculator

Greenhouse Gas Equivalence Calculator

This site is very user friendly. If you want to know your carbon footprint using there carbon footprint calculator,  just enter your data. The good thing about the site is that it has reference page where you can see how to computation is derived.

You can also use this to compute for individual or household footprint.

Below is a screenshot of the results of ecological green footprint using Greenhouse Gas Equivalency.

CO2 Calculator

This will calculate how much CO2 will be needed to fill a grow room to the required level. It will also determine how long it will take to fill at the given rate.

Nature Conservancy Carbon Calculator

Another user friendly carbon footprint calculator is the one hosted by Nature Conservancy. As you can see in the photo above, you can just choose any category whether home, food, shopping or travel. Then you will be ask to enter the data on the following indicators.

Ecological Footprint

This one is also my favorite. You can see an interactive infographic as you enter your data in the left side of the panel.

Just an inspiration.

At the end of the page of the ecological green footprint calculator you will notice that their will be a sort of commitment to reducing your footprint. This would include by having a pledge, a contribution to off-set carbon footprint. It’s up to you. It voluntary anyway.

Do you have suggestion?

I know there are lots of open source carbon footprint calculator but the important thing here is to start implementing reducing carbon emissions.

Why bother calculate when in the end it will not be used in any way?
